More than I can chew

It has been a few days since Kindle Scout finished, and after spending the first 24 hours obsessively checking my emails and my campaign I had to admit it might take some time before I get a response on the outcome. Boo

So I tried to work on my other novel which has a deadline quickly approaching and it just isn't flowing. There is something about Visceral Urn that really engages me. I love the idea of it, the premise seems both unique and intriguing. I feel like it is going to satisfy a niche market, and I look forward to getting it out there. Except whenever I sit down to write it, I just can't find the motivation.

Visceral Urn is supposed to be read like a video game. With a bag that holds so much and yet never gets any bigger or a hindrance. Inspired by RPG's like Boulder's Gate and Final Fantasy I wanted to write a novel that used popular gaming techniques. A character class and potions for healing. Costumes for females that actually seemed to be designed for sex appeal and not protecting the body.

I have 23,000 words already written but I feel like I might have taken on more than I can chew. Every book I have attempted for publishing has been a step up from the last and I think I might just not be ready for the demanding deadlines I have set myself (Supanova is coming after all) and the creativity needed to make a project like Visceral Urn successful.

Analogue uses known fantasy lore (werewolves, vampires and warlocks) and a well-known location (Seattle) - so I only needed to create the characters that would function in that world. Extol of Agnatic Dreams - my first real fantasy novel IMO - inspired by books like Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings I needed to create a fictional map (still based on a known realm Earth and a middle ages Europe), lore, characters and religion. Visceral Urn - taking on a genre that doesn't seem to exist and creating a way of presenting one medium as an entirely opposite medium. Games are visual and books are not. I was creating an alien world from scratch. I was creating different beings to exist in this world (aliens, humanoid and anthropomorphic), seven character builds and an interesting hybrid between organic and computer Reader that tracked your stats.

As you can see, the jumps between released novels have been huge from a creative POV. Analogue was written in a few months. Extol had 2 years of research behind it. Visceral Urn had a week or two. It just isn't practical in my own mind to keep up with these demands. Clearly I need more time to work on Visceral so when it is released it is something I am proud of, and will reach those milestones I imagine for it.

Which leaves me with a rather large problem. I need three books for supanova. Analogue and Extol of Agnatic Dreams naturally fill the brief. Visceral Urn was supposed to be the third. If I put Visceral Urn back into the planning stages, I need a new project to focus on. I have many ideas but I need something that is inspired and easy. (hard combination)

Starting something new would also mean I am 23000 words behind schedule, that is a lot of work for one person to do while dealing with life.

I really need to decide what I am doing before my writing session tonight.
